BATON ROUGE (May 25, 2011) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will close all boat traffic for a four-mile long stretch in the Atchafalaya Basin in St. Martin Parish starting at 6 a.m. on May 26.

In support of State and Parish requirements, the Louisiana National Guard has approximately 1,150 Guardsmen mobilized for this emergency. Today, the National Guard is providing aviation support to St. Mary Parish officials in order to assess levees and potential areas for flooding.

In St. Landry parish, officials lifted a mandatory evacuation order for residents living South of Hwy. 190, the Three Mile Lake area and North Wilderness Road area. This area will remain under voluntary evacuation until further notice. St. Landry has a mandatory evacuation order for livestock and residents living on the east side of the levee. St. Martin parish issued a mandatory evacuation for Happy Town and Sherburne Wildlife Management areas Saturday at 8 a.m. However, the mandatory evacuation for the Butte La Rose area has been moved to noon on Tuesday.

BATON ROUGE (May 19, 2011) - Governor Bobby Jindal yesterday sent the below letter to the U.S. Department of the Interior requesting consideration of available assistance and recovery programs for Louisiana recreational and commercial fishing, hunting, and eco-tourism industries.

BATON ROUGE (May 19, 2011) - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that all lanes of River Road (La. 327) will completely close at Brightside Drive to Ben Hur Road, a distance of less than a mile. The closure is expected to last approximately three days. DOTD state detour routes are Skip Bertman Drive on the northern end and Gardere Lane on the southern end of the closure.

LOTTIE (May 18, 2011) - Officials have reduced the speed limit on US 190 temporarily in the Atchafalaya Floodway area in an effort enhance the safety of the motoring public. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Agents have observed displaced wildlife on and near the elevated roadway and have requested the speed limit reduction.

BATON ROUGE (May 18, 2011) - Enforcement agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries responding to flooding in Louisiana captured images of wildlife fleeing water that has displaced them from their habitats.
