HCR 185 of the 2008 Regular Session requested that DHH, the Department of Insurance, and the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors investigate the health risks associated with living in homes that contain drywall imported from China, to study the potential homeowners insurance coverage issues, including triggers, endorsements, and exclusions to policies that are related to drywall imported from China, and to determine whether such material should be identified as a substandard, unsafe building material, and report findings and recommendations to the legislature.

HB 246 of the 2007 Regular Session provides for the certification of medication attendants to work in licensed nursing homes until August 1, 2011. The bill also required annual interim reports to the House and Senate health and welfare committees until the expiration of the pilot program.

HCR 202 created the Healthcare-Acquired Infections Advisory Group within DHH and asked the group to identify the most health-compromising and costly healthcare-acquired infections in Louisiana, to rank them in order of severity and prevalence, to provide health care providers with strategies to combat healthcare-acquired infections, to determine a cost-effective method to use infection information currently reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and to provide this information in a manner that allows the public access to this data. The resolution required the group to compile these findings in a written report to be submitted to the House and Senate committees on health and welfare.

HCR 94 of the 2010 Regular Session directed DHH to streamline the Direct Service Worker Registry process and submit a written report to the House and Senate Committees on Health and Welfare detailing its findings and conclusions.

In response to HR 150 of the 2010 Regular Session, the Medical Vendor Credentialing Task Force was formed within DHH. Its task was to study and make recommendations for the establishment of a uniform and reciprocal medical vendor credentialing system. The resolution required that the task force’s recommendations be submitted to the House and Senate Committees on Health and Welfare.

Through HB 76 of the 2010 Regular Session, DHH was authorized to enter into Low-Income and Needy Care Collaborative agreements with qualifying hospitals to ensure access to health care services for the poor and needy. The bill requires DHH to submit quarterly reports to the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget prior to making any expenditures provided for in the bill.

In response to HB 1185 of the 2010 Regular Session, DHH is required to submit quarterly reports to the House and Senate Committees on Health and Welfare and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget regarding costs and other pertinent data for the New Opportunities Waiver, the Elderly and Disabled Adult Waiver, and the Long-Term Personal Care Services Program.

In response to SR 152 and HR 176 of the 2010 Regular Session, DHH was required to study the impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on Louisiana-based community mental health centers and report the findings and conclusions of the study to the House and Senate Committees on Health and Welfare.
