HR 181 urges and requests the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) to study the desirability and feasibility of adopting a state policy to provide for the review of prescription drug prices and rebates in the medical assistance program, known commonly as Medicaid. HR 181 requests LDH to submit a report of its findings, and recommendations to the House Committee on Health and Welfare.

HR 155 urges the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) to study certain tax-related and health-related issues associated with electronic cigarettes and other vapor products, and to report the findings of the study to the House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on Health and Welfare.

The Department of Health (LDH) submits the attached report in response to Act 311 of the 2013 Regular Session. Act 311 requests DHH to report to the House and Senate Committees on Health and Welfare the incidence and causes of all re-hospitalizations of infants born premature at less than thirty-seven weeks gestational age and who are within the first six months of life.

In response to HB 490/ACT 88 of the 2017 Regular Legislative Session, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) submits the attached Year-End Report. This legislation creates the Advisory Council on Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) to the Drug Policy Board and further requires the establishment of an Interagency Heroin and Opioid Coordination Plan to be submitted annually.

The annual Synar Report describes the progress Louisiana and other states have made in enforcing youth tobacco access laws and future plans to reduce youth tobacco access rates as required by the federal Public Health Service Act [42 U.S.C. 300x–26]. The law requires all states to have in effect a law making it unlawful for any manufacturer, retailer, or distributor of tobacco products to sell or distribute any such product to any individual under the age of 18, and to conduct random, unannounced inspections to ensure compliance with the law. States are required to report this information annually to the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).
