Newborn Screening Program
This program aims to eliminate or reduce mortality, morbidity and disabilities by early detection and treatment of the disorders included in the newborn screening panel. The program now screens for all disorders recommended by the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) except for hearing loss.

Secure Remote Viewer (SRV) Electronic Lab Results Registration - September 27, 2018
Effective immediately, the OPH state laboratory will no longer send out physical copies of Newborn Screening lab results to providers. Medical providers will be able to view the Newborn Screening lab results through our Secured Remote Viewer Web Based System (SRV). Please fill out the attached registration form (Registration form) and fax it to 504-568-8253. Instruction on accessing SRV can be found here (Instructions)
OPH State Laboratory move
The Office of Public Health State Laboratory, including Newborn Screening, will be moving to a new facility in Baton Rouge beginning January 20, 2015, with the Newborn Screening lab move being completed by January 26, 2015. There will not be any interruption in Newborn Screening testing. Our Newborn Screening courier provider, Express Courier, has been notified and will pick up samples as normal. All samples will be delivered to the new facility in Baton Rouge starting on Friday January 23, 2015. All samples shipped via the USPS should be mailed to the new address starting January 23, 2014. Filter Paper Specimen Collection Training
The Genetic Diseases Program is committed to reducing the number of newborn screening specimens (Filter paper Lab-10 specimens) rejected as unsatisfactory for testing. In collaboration with the Office of Public Health's regional hospital nurse coordinators, in-service training and education on the proper technique for sample collection is now available statewide. To assist with training, copies of the DVD, CLSI Newborn Screening Collection can be borrowed for viewing. To request in-service training and/or the loan of the DVD, please contact the Genetic Diseases Program office at 504-568-8254.
