The current COVID-19 pandemic brings many emotional reactions: Uncertainty, Fear, Frustration, Sadness, and Loneliness.
We cannot control many things during this time. There are some things each of us can do to take care of ourselves. Since we are all working to follow the instructions to stay home (unless we have urgent need) and to practice social distancing (not getting to close to others), it can be hard to think about how to do these things and follow the instructions. To help guide some thinking and share ideas, OCDD has worked to put together some tools to share with individuals, families, and providers. For families/staff supporting individuals with IDD during this time, these tools and ideas can also be of value to you and your self-care and wellness. The links to these are below:
- Emotional Wellness Guide
- Using the Emotional Wellness Guide and Tips/Ideas for each category to support while at home and Social Distancing.
- Tips sheet with Resource and Activities to Try that provides ideas and links to virtual/online options to access during this time.
OCDD will continue to work to update these tools throughout this event. If you have any positive experiences or ideas you want to share, please email Robin.Newman@la.gov and Mark.Garcia@la.gov and our OCDD Clinical Services staff will keep the ideas and tips updated and routinely put them out to share with all. OCDD is committed to providing resources to support all individuals with disabilities, their families and providers/support staff to help provide positive guidance in this difficult time.
