DHH Confirms One New Case of West Nile Virus
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has confirmed one new human case of West Nile Virus, bringing this year's total to ten. The new case is from Calcasieu Parish. This case is reported in DHH's weekly Louisiana Arbovirus Surveillance Summary which can be found in the Surveillance Reports Section of the DHH website.

Louisiana Earns Perfect Score in Public Health Emergency Preparedness
For the second consecutive year, Louisiana scored a perfect 100 on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) evaluation of the state's public health emergency preparedness and response capabilities. Louisiana and seven other states scored 100 two years in a row. Louisiana's public health laboratories also received exemplary marks. The CDC's "Public Health Preparedness: 2011 State-by-State Update on Laboratory Capabilities and Response Readiness Planning" report released today evaluates the state over a three-year period, from 2007-2010.

DHH Confirms first Cases of Neuroinvasive Disease
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has confirmed four new human cases of West Nile Virus, bringing this year’s total to eight. The four new cases are from Washington, Vernon and Tangipahoa parishes and include Louisiana’s first cases this year of neuroinvasive disease, the more serious form of West Nile Virus.

Temple-Inland agrees to state request to support sampling of private water wells and seafood
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) are working with local officials in Washington and St. Tammany parishes to conduct a new round of precautionary testing of a sample of private water wells along the Pearl River. Temple Inland agreed to support the state’s request to begin precautionary testing earlier today.
