Office on Women’s Health and Community Health
The Office on Women's Health and Community Health (OWHCH) was established under a bill passed by the Louisiana Legislature and signed by Governor John Bel Edwards on June 18, 2022. OWHCH is dedicated to focusing on improving women's health outcomes and serve as a clearing house, coordinating agency and resource center for women's health data and strategies. Issues of focus include needs throughout a woman's life; chronic or acute conditions; access to healthcare; how poverty impacts women's health; leading causes of morbidity and mortality and health disparities.
Vision
Providing a department-wide focus on women's health outcomes through policy education, evidence-based practices, programs and services.
In accordance with Senate Bill 55 of the 2024 Regular Session, the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office on Women’s Health and Community Health provides post-birth information to healthcare providers.
These resources give providers guidance on urgent maternal warning signs to share with patients post-birth.
