All Louisianans need to take precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones from this dangerous surge of COVID-19: avoid gatherings of individuals not part of your households, work from home remotely when possible, wear a mask, practice social distancing and good hand hygiene, and stay home if sick.
The Louisiana Department of Health confirmed the state will receive 29,250 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and 28,900 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine over the course of next week.
Gov. John Bel Edwards extended his modified Phase 2 order, keeping COVID mitigation measures in place for another 28 days, and strongly recommended that all businesses in Louisiana move to remote work for as many employees as possible, as COVID cases and hospitalizations surge in Louisiana. The Governor's statewide mask mandate also stays in place.
This week, 209 vaccine providers across the state will receive very limited doses of COVID vaccine.
Reminder: LDH cannot make appointments at participating pharmacies for eligible residents. LDH has published the list of participating pharmacies, along with their locations and contact information, on its website. Starting today, Louisiana will begin receiving the first very limited doses of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine that will be available at 107 pharmacies across the state.
Former State Health Officer Jimmy Guidry, M.D., retired from LDH on December 31, 2020. As newly-appointed State Health Officer, effective January 1, 2020, I hereby affirm that all COVID-related Emergency Orders issued by former State Health Officer Jimmy Guidry, M.D. that were still in effect on December 31, 2020 remain in effect, subject to any expiration dates or terms set forth therein.
Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to pharmacies statewide in limited supply beginning January 4 to be administered to people 70 and older and additional health care workers.
As Louisiana heads into the New Year, the best way to show your loved ones you care is to reduce the likelihood that you spread COVID to them. Celebrate at home with your immediate household and continue to take precautions: practice social distancing, wear a mask and wash your hands. If you have been exposed or have symptoms of COVID-19, get tested.
