Three members of the Louisiana Department of Health’s leadership team have been selected for participation in opportunities to make an impact at the state and federal level.
In accordance with the provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act, (R.S. 49:950, et seq.) as amended, the state health officer, acting through the Department of Health and Hospitals/Office of Public Health, is promulgating a proposed rule to amend Part II (The Control of Diseases) and Part III (The Control of Rabies and Other Zoonotic Diseases of the Louisiana State Sanitary Code (LAC 51). The Part II amendments are proposed in order to clarify disease reporting requirements and expand the list of reportable diseases and conditions to reflect current public health concerns. Chapter 7 will be updated so the Louisiana Immunization schedule will keep in accordance with the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) of the United States Public Health Service. The Part III amendment is proposed in order to update and clarify the vaccination standards and re-vaccination intervals for dogs and cats to meet current national guidelines, as well as updating required actions for domestic animals bitten by rabid animals to conform to current national best practices.
The Louisiana Department of Health, Bureau of Health Services Financing has submitted Final Rules to the Office of the State Register for publication in the February 20, 2019 edition of the Louisiana Register in accordance with the provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act, R.S. 49:950 et seq.
Repeals the provisions of Title 48, Part I, Chapter 49 of the Louisiana Administrative Code governing case management licensing standards and replaces them with provisions governing the licensing of support coordination providers to ensure that these provisions are consistent with other health care licensing requirements and are promulgated in a clear and concise manner.
Amends the provisions governing reimbursement in the Pharmacy Benefits Management Program in order to: 1) reinstate the federal upper payment limits provisions that were erroneously repealed in the Notice of Intent published in the January 20, 2019 edition of the Louisiana Register; 2) align the reimbursement methodology for physician-administered drugs in a physician office setting with the corresponding CMS-approved State Plan Amendment; and 3) ensure that these provisions are appropriately promulgated in the Louisiana Administrative Code.
Amends the provisions governing the Direct Service Worker (DSW) Registry in order to 1) provide a process for direct service workers who have been placed on the DSW Registry with a negative finding of neglect to a client to request removal, under certain conditions, and to provide for appeal opportunities if the reinstatement request is denied; and 2) clarify and ensure that the provisions for the DSW Registry are promulgated in a clear and concise manner.
The February 2019 Legislative Oversight Committee reports have been submitted to the respective legislative oversight committees in accordance with R.S. 49:968(D)(1)(b)(c)
In accordance with R.S. 49:968, the 1st Legislative Oversight Committee Report for the proposed Disease Reporting Requirements; Public Health Immunization Requirements; and Anti-Rabies Vaccination Requirements for Dogs and Cats rule has been submitted to the applicable oversight committees.
An increase in measles cases in the U.S. has been identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Although cases of Measles have not yet spread to Louisiana, we want clinicians to be on the lookout. Today, the Pediatria Healthcare for Kids in Baton Rouge announced it would close its facility on Airline Highway after its provisional license expired. The clinic serves 23 patients, who are all being helped by the Louisiana Department of Health to find alternative care providers.
The Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative, made up of 31 birthing facilities from around the state, met in Lafayette earlier this month for the second learning session of the Reducing Maternal Morbidity initiative. This work is aimed at reducing severe medical complications from bleeding or severely elevated blood pressure during and after the birth process. These complications, known as maternal morbidity, are unexpected outcomes of labor and delivery that result in short- or long-term consequences to a woman's health.
