School Water Lead Testing Program Finds No Heightened Levels of Lead in Drinking Water
“Many Louisiana communities have water systems with aging infrastructure as well as older homes. Both situations make it more likely to find lead in water due to old plumbing. When we designed this program, we fully expected to find some instance of elevated lead because we purposefully selected schools that had older pipes and plumbing. These results are extremely encouraging.”

Health Department Offers Funding for Local Mosquito Control Efforts

Louisiana Department of Health awards grants for the creation of parish mosquito abatement districts
The Louisiana Department of Health is awarding two $250,000 grants to establish mosquito abatement districts in St. Mary and Assumption parishes. The grants, sub-awards of a larger grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will allow these parishes to start in-house mosquito abatement districts.
