LaHIPP for Members

The policyholder is reimbursed.

The state will repay your monthly insurance premium by:

  • Direct deposit, or
  • A check mailed to you

Reimbursement continues as long as you qualify for LaHIPP.

Yes. Both children and adults may qualify.

No. Applying for LaHIPP is free.

No. If you qualify for LaHIPP, you will keep your Medicaid.

You will still have Medicaid, but how some services are covered will change.

  • Physical health services will be covered by your private insurance first.
  • Medicaid will help pay for physical health services as a secondary payer through traditional Medicaid.
  • Behavioral health services will still be covered by your Medicaid health plan.
  • Dental services will still be covered by your Medicaid dental plan.

When you visit a doctor, always bring both your private insurance card and your Medicaid card.

You may not need to change your doctor. Your provider must:

  • Be in your private insurance network, and
  • Accept Medicaid

Yes. When approved for LaHIPP, your Medicaid coverage changes from your Healthy Louisiana plan to Medicaid Fee-For-Service. Before enrolling in LaHIPP, check to see if your doctor accepts this type of Medicaid coverage. You can use the Find a Provider tool to search for “Providers Servicing Only LaHIPP”.

Tell your doctor that you are enrolled in LaHIPP.

Always give them both your Medicaid card and your private insurance card at check-in.

Your doctor must contact Provider Enrollment to become a Medicaid Fee-For-Service provider.
